Hiking the AT in full has been a longtime dream of mine. I went hiking numerous times with my Boy Scout troop growing up, and very much enjoyed the time I spent on the AT. For spring break in 2005, I went to go visit my aunt and uncle in Colorado, and they recommended Bill Bryson's book, A Walk in the Woods. After reading the book, I made up my mind that I would one day thru hike the AT. An opportunity arose in my life to do the trail now and I plan on seizing it and use it as an excuse to accomplish a life-long goal!

Hiking the AT in full has not been a longtime dream of mine. I cannot say that I have spent much time hiking (but I always enjoyed being active and healthy, and I am a really awesome walker). I started reading A Walk in the Woods, but someone told me the ending and it made me kind of sad so I haven't finished it. After working as a structural engineer for a couple of years, I made up my mind that I would quit my job in May and go back to school in September to explore my passion for the arts and architecture. All of a sudden, I have a summer vacation and when Grant told me about his plan, I thought it would be just the perfect adventure! Wonder what I have signed myself up for :)
